Things To Note After Nebulizing

1. Cleaning
Equipment cleaning
After the nebulization is completed, the nebulizer should be cleaned immediately. Remove the various parts of the nebulizer (such as medicine cup, mask or mouthpiece) and rinse with clean water. For parts that can withstand high temperatures, such as some plastic medicine cups, they can be scalded with boiling water to kill bacteria and viruses. Avoid residual drugs drying on the parts and affecting the effect of the next use.
After cleaning, place the parts in a clean and well-ventilated place to dry. Do not wipe with a towel, because the towel may carry bacteria and fibers, which may be inhaled into the respiratory tract by the patient when used again.
Face and oral cleaning
For patients who use masks for nebulization, wash the face with warm water after the nebulization is completed, especially the skin around the mouth and nose. Because the nebulized drug may remain on the skin and cause allergic or irritating reactions.
At the same time, oral cleaning should be performed. You can rinse your mouth with clean water or light salt water to remove the residual drugs in the mouth. This is because the residue of nebulized drugs in the mouth may cause oral Candida infection, especially after the nebulization of drugs such as glucocorticoids, oral cleaning is more important.
2. Observe the body's reaction
Observe breathing and symptoms
After nebulization, observe breathing closely. Pay attention to whether there are changes in breathing rate, depth and rhythm. If you experience shortness of breath, worsening wheezing, or aggravated cough, it may be an adverse reaction caused by the nebulized drug, or it may be a change in the condition itself. You need to contact your doctor in time.
For patients with underlying respiratory diseases, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), observe whether the original symptoms are relieved. If the symptoms do not improve or even worsen, you also need to inform your doctor so that the treatment plan can be adjusted.
Observe systemic reactions
Pay attention to whether there are other discomforts in the body, such as dizziness, palpitations, and rashes. Some drugs may cause systemic allergic reactions or other adverse reactions. For example, after nebulizing certain antibiotics, allergic reactions may occur, manifested as itchy skin, erythema, etc. Once these conditions are found, stop using the nebulizer immediately and seek medical help.
3. Storage of drugs and equipment
Drug storage
If there is any nebulized drug left, it should be properly stored according to the requirements of the drug instructions. Some drugs need to be refrigerated, such as some biological agents; while some drugs need to be kept away from light. Make sure the medicine is within the validity period and check whether the appearance and properties of the medicine have changed before the next use.
Equipment storage
After cleaning and drying, the nebulizer should be stored in a clean and dry place to avoid direct sunlight and dust pollution. At the same time, the performance of the nebulizer, such as the uniformity and flow rate of the spray, should be checked regularly to ensure that it is working properly. If the nebulizer fails, such as uneven spray or abnormal sound, it should be repaired or replaced in time.
