What Is The New Hearing Aid Technology in 2024?
Leave a message
Hearing aids are not headphones. They do not amplify sound and improve sound quality like microphones. Instead, they are high-tech integrations of chips and algorithms. The sound is amplified synchronously, which makes patients feel uncomfortable. When users wear them, they often hear their own voices as if they are in a valley. Therefore, some new technologies, such as using bone voiceprints, detecting vibrations, and adding algorithms, can eliminate this part of the voice and echo.

Just a dozen years ago, many people wore large, obtrusive hearing aids that required constant fiddling with their positions, changing batteries, and complaining that they still couldn't hear speech clearly. But in recent years, advances in technology have transformed these devices from a source of frustration to advanced audio devices that connect in a modern IoT-based ecosystem, providing users with a host of benefits and superior audio performance.
The first step in the evolution of hearing aids was to implement frequency-based nonlinear amplification, where each frequency band would be amplified according to the energy level contained in that band. As a result, loud noises were attenuated and quiet sounds were amplified, which greatly enhanced the experience of hearing aid users.
This progress has been driven primarily by the advent of digital signal processing (DSP), which has given hearing aids the granularity to tailor amplification of different frequencies, allowing them to be adjusted and optimized for the user, especially as their hearing degrades over time. DSP allows audio signals to be processed in entirely new ways using highly selective digital filters that can isolate frequencies and therefore types of sounds.
